OVER VIEW

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN will be conducted by the NTA from 2019 onwards. previously this examination was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till 2018. JEE Main is applicable for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12thclass examination. Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech. & B. Arch./B. Planning Courses in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs is as under:-

The above mentioned policy could also be adopted by other Technical Institutions participating in counselling through JoSAA/CSAB. In case a State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to State Universities, the State may prepare separate rank list based on criteria decided by them.

JEE (Main) – 2020 Eligibility Age Limit

For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed class 12th / equivalent examination in 2018, 2019 or appearing in 2020 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) examination – 2020. The candidates should also satisfy themselves about their fulfilling the age limit requirements of the Institutes in which they are desirous of taking admission.  The candidates must note that the IITs have an age limit / restriction, which will be published in JEE(Advanced)-2020 Information Brochure.

List of Qualifying Examinations (QE)

  1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
  2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
  3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
  4. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  5. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  6. Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  7. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 year duration.
  8. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced level.
  9. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Examination or  any  equivalent  qualifying examination in 2018 or 2019; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2020 are eligible to appear in January JEE(Main)-2020 Examination. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2017 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2021 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)–2020. Candidates must note that the IITs permit only two attempts for the JEE (Advanced), i.e. a candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2019 or 2020, subject to the condition of not having been admitted at an IIT on earlier occasion. Details may be obtained from the Information Brochure of the JEE(Advanced)2020.

JEE Main Application

JEE Main 2020 application form/ registration is available for all eligible candidates for over a month and a half. Before filling the application form of JEE Main 2020, the candidates must keep ready with them their scanned photograph, signature and thumb impression which they have to upload while filling in the online application form. Apart from filling the personal and academic details, the candidates have to pay the application cum exam fee for JEE Main 2020 in offline and online mode.

JEE Main (2020) Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE (Main)-2020 Examination twice for admission to Undergraduate Programs in NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), etc. in the next academic year (2020-2021).The First JEE(Main)-2020 will be conducted in January 2020 between 6th January (Monday) and 11th January (Saturday) 2020 and the Second JEE(Main)-2020 will be conducted between 3rd April (Friday) and 9th April (Thursday) 2020. As per the eligibility criteria for B.Arch and B.Planning courses and according to the opinion of Subject Experts, a few changes in the pattern of the question paper(s) and number of question(s) for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning have been approved by the JEE Apex Board (JAB) for the conduct of JEE (Main)-2020 Examination.

The above Examinations will be held in “Computer Based Test” (CBT) Mode only, except that the Drawing Test for B.Arch. will be held in “Pen & Paper” (offline) mode. A candidate may appear in B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning depending upon the course/s he/she wishes to pursue.

The candidates aspiring to take admission to the undergraduate programs at IITs for the year 2020 will also have to appear in B. E. /B. Tech. Paper of JEE (Main)-2020. Based on the performance in the B.E./B. Tech. of JEE (Main)-2020, number of top candidates as per the requirement for JEE (Advanced) 2020 will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)- 2020.Admission to IITs will be based on category -wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE(Advanced),subject to the conditions as would be mentioned in JEE(Advanced)-2020 Website. For the April JEE(Main)-2020, a separate notice will be issued later on and the candidates will be required to apply separately. However, candidates are not required to compulsorily appear in both the tests i.e. January JEE(Main)-2020 and April JEE(Main)-2020. In case, a candidate appears in both the tests, the better of the two scores will be used for the admissions and eligibility of JEE(Advanced)-2020.

Important Note for objective type or most Appropriate: To answer a question, the candidates need to  choose one option corresponding to the correct option. However, after the process of challenges of the key, if more than one option is found to be correct then the multiple correct options will be given the four marks (+4). Any incorrect option marked will be given the minus one mark (-1).  Unanswered/Marked for review will be given no marks. In case, a question is dropped/ignored, all candidates will be given four marks(+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

Instructions for Filling Online Application Form

Candidates have to apply for January JEE (Main)- 2020 “Online” ONLY by accessing the websites.www.nta.ac.in , www.nta.nic.in and www.jeemain.nta.nic.in The Application Form other than online mode would not be accepted, in any case. Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate. More than one application i.e. Multiple application forms submitted by a candidate will be rejected. It is suggested that you have the following ready before starting the filling of the online application form:

  • A computer with good Internet connectivity
  • All your qualification details
  • Scanned clear passport photograph in JPG/JPEG format (size between 10 kb–200 kb)
  • Scanned clear signature in JPG/JPEG format (size between 4 kb–30 kb)
  • A valid e-mail Id as all communication will be made on this e-mail Id
  • A valid mobile number as all information via SMS will be sent to this number
  • A valid debit/credit card or Net banking account or UPI or PAYTM Service.
  • A printer connected to your system to print confirmation page
  • Download information Bulletin. Read it carefully to ensure your eligibility and acquaint with the requirements for submission of Online Application Form.
  • No correction can be made at a later stage after submission of an application. No change will be accepted through Post/Fax/ email / By Hand etc.

Follow following 4 (Four) Steps to Apply Online for the candidates who are appearing for January JEE(Main) –2020 Examination:

Step-1: Register for Online Application Form and note down system generated Application Number. The candidate should supply all the details while filling the Online Application Form and is also required to create PASSWORD and choose Security Question and enter his/her Answer. After successful submission of the personal details, Application number will be generated and it will be used to complete the remaining Steps of the Application Form and will also be required for all future correspondence. This application number will also be used to fill the application form of April,  2020, if the candidates wish to apply for the same. For subsequent logins, candidate will be able to login directly with the respective system generated Application Number and created Password.

Step-2: Complete the Application Form Candidate can login with the system generated Application Number and created Password for completing   the Application Form. 

Step-3: Upload Scanned Images of Candidate’s Photograph and Candidate’s Signature.

  • The recent photograph should be coloured or black/white (but clear contrast).
  • Scanned photograph and signature should be in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Size of scanned photograph should be between 10 kb to 200 kb.
  • Size of scanned signature should be between 4 kb to 30 kb.

Note: Upload the correct Photograph and Signature as the facility for correction in images will not be given.

Step-4: Payment by Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI/PAYTM: The candidate has to select Debit card/Credit card/Net banking/UPI/PAYTM option to pay the application fee and follow the online instruction to complete the payment of fee. After successful payment, candidate will be able to print the Confirmation Page. In case the Confirmation Page is not generated after payment of fee then the transaction is cancelled and the candidates have to approach the concerned bank for refund of amount. However the candidate has to make another payment/transaction, in case the Confirmation Page is not generated.THESE STEPS CAN BE DONE TOGETHER AND SEPARATELY ALSO. The candidates are required to check the status of fee payment at NTA websites www.jeemain.nta.nic.in www.nta.nic.in and if the status is ‘OK’ the candidate will be able to take the printout of Confirmation Page. In case, the fee payment status is not ‘OK’ the candidates are advised as following:-If the fee is paid through credit/debit card/Netbanking/UPI /PAYTM and status is not OK, it means the transaction is cancelled and the amount will, automatically, be refunded to concerned credit/debit card/Net Banking/UPI/PAYTM Account within 15 days. Therefore, such candidates have to pay the fee once again and ensure the fee status OK.

Note:The final submission of online Application form will remain incomplete if all the steps are not completed. Such forms will stand rejected and no correspondence on this account will be entertained.

No request for refund of fee once remitted by the candidate will be entertained

The entire application process of January JEE (Main) –2020 is online, including uploading of scanned images, Payment of Fees and Printing of Confirmation page. Therefore, candidates are not required to send/submit any document(s) including Confirmation page to NTA through Post/Fax/email/ By Hand. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the NTA’s website regularly for latest updates and to check their registered mobile for SMS/e-mails. The NTA can make use of the data generated for the purpose of research and analysis. The replica of January JEE(Main)-2020 Examination is attached as Annexure V Important Note: No Correction shall be made after declaration of result by the NTA. All the candidates who have submitted the online application and paid the examination fee till last date will be allowed to appear in January JEE(Main) –2020 and their admit cards will be uploaded on the website as per schedule. The NTA neither verify the information filled by the candidates in the application form nor verify any certificate of category/educational qualification for deciding the eligibility of candidates. The certificates of educational qualification and category (if applied under reserved category) will be verified by the concerned institution. The candidates are, therefore, advised to ensure their eligibility and the category (if applying under reserved category). The NTA will, in no way, be responsible for any wrong/incorrect information furnished by the candidate(s) in their online application form. The letter/e-mails in this regard will not be entertained by the NTA.

Those candidates who wish to appear for B.Arch as well as B.Planning will have the duration of examination 3.30 hrs. i.e. from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.Candidates are advised to report at the Examination Center well in time i.e. before 2 hours of commencement of the examination. In case a candidate, by furnishing the false information, appears in more than one shifts/dates, his candidature will be cancelled and his result will not be declared. Note: Candidate shall appear at their own cost at the Centre on Date and shift as indicated in their Admit Card issued by the NTA. Under no circumstances the choice of cities for centre and shift provided in the Admit Card shall be changed.

State of Eligibility

State code of eligibility means the code of the State from where the candidate has passed Class XII (or equivalent) qualifying examination by virtue of which the candidate becomes eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2020. It is important to note that the State code of eligibility does NOT depend upon the native place or the place of residence of the candidate. For example, if a candidate appears for the Class XII examination in New Delhi and is a resident of NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh, the candidate’s State code of eligibility will be that of Delhi and NOT that of Uttar Pradesh. If a candidate has passed Class XII (or equivalent) qualifying examination from one State but appeared for improvement from another State, the candidate’s State code of eligibility will be from where the candidate first passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination and NOT the State from where the candidate has appeared for improvement. Candidate passed/appearing class 12th from NIOS should select the State of Eligibility according to the State in which the study centre is located. For Indian nationals passing the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from an institution abroad, the State code of eligibility will be determined on the basis of permanent address in India as given in the passport of the candidate. For Indian nationals passing the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from Nepal/Bhutan, the State code of eligibility will be determined on the basis of permanent address in India as given in the passport of the candidate. The State code of eligibility of OCI/PIO passing Class XII (or equivalent) examination in India is at par with Indian nationals. However, OCI/PIO passing the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from an institution abroad are eligible for Other State quota seats or All India quota seats (but NOT for Home State quota seats) in all NITs, IIEST and Other-CFTI.

Cities/Towns of January JEE (Main) –2020 Examination Centres

The Cities where the January JEE (Main)-2020 will be conducted are given below. While applying, candidates have to select any four cities  of their  choice. The efforts will be made to allot city of examination to the candidates in order of the choice opted by them in their application form. However, due to administrative reasons, a different city of nearby area may be allotted. The decision of the NTA regarding allotment of Centre shall be final. No further correspondence or request shall be entertained in such case.

JEE (Main) NTA Score for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning

After the January JEE (Main)-2020 examinations, the NTA will display provisional Answer Keys & Question Paper attempted by the candidate on the NTA’s websites www.nta.ac.in , www.nta.nic.in and www.jeemain.nta.nic.in The date shall be displayed on the NTA’s website for the same. The challenge of provisional answer keys will be accepted online only through the link available on the websites www.jeemain.nta.nic.in and www.nta.nic.in on payment of a processing fee of Rs.1000/- per question. The fee can be paid by credit/debit card/Net banking/UPI/PAYTM service. The fee once paid is non-refundable. The NTA’s decision on the challenges shall be final and no further communication will be entertained. The subject experts will examine all the challenges received and then a final answer key will be displayed and declared. The result will be compiled on the basis of this final answer key declared.  No  grievance  with  regard to answer key(s) after declaration of result of January JEE  (Main)-  2020  will  be entertained.Evaluation of multiple choice questions of B.E./B.Tech , B.Arch and B.Planning will be carried out using final answer keys and the raw (actual) marks obtained by a candidate will be considered further for computation of the result of January JEE (Main)-2020. For multi-shift papers, raw marks obtained by the candidates in different shifts/sessions will be converted to NTA Score. Compilation and display of Result of B.E./B.Tech

Compilation and display of Result for January session:

Since, January JEE (Main)-2020 B.E./B.Tech first attempt will be conducted in multi-shifts, NTA scores will be calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate. The calculated NTA scores for all the shifts/sessions will be declared by 31st January, 2020. This shall comprise of the four NTA scores for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) and the total in B.E./B.Tech of January JEE (Main)–2020.

Compilation and display of Result of B.Arch and B.Planning

Since, January JEE (Main)-2020 B.Arch and B.Planning will be conducted in multi-shifts, the raw marks obtained by all the candidates who appeared will be converted into NTA score and declared by 31st January, 2020. This shall comprise of four NTA scores for each of the three parts (Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Drawing Test or Planning Based Test) and total in B.Arch/B.Planning of January JEE(Main)-2020.

Note: All participating institutes that do not use the Centralized Seat Allocation Process will prepare their own ranking based on the performance in JEE (Main)-2020 and other criteria as decided by them. Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)/Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs/ SFIs/ Others. No score/rank card will be dispatched to the candidates and the candidates are advised to download their score/rank cards from the JEE (Main) website: www.nta.nic.in / www.nta.ac.in only. The All India Rank shall be compiled and declared after conduct of April JEE(Main)-2020 Examination. There shall be no provision for re-valuation/re-checking of the Score. No correspondence in this regard shall be entertained. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an examination conducting body and not an admission giving authority. Therefore, NTA does not collect the information regarding total number of seats available in the institutions, or the eligibility and reservation criteria followed by the institutions.

Admission to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFIs, State Engineering Colleges for Participating States and Other Participating Institutions

Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board: Admission to B.E. / B.Tech / B.Arch / B.Planning. Courses in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12thclass examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class / Qualifying examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class / qualifying examination. The eligibility criteria decided by the Council of Architecture for admission to B.Arch. course other than NITs, IIITs, CFTIs: “No candidate shall be admitted to architecture course unless she/he has passed an examination at the end of the qualifying examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate of the qualifying examination”. For B.Planning, the candidates should have passed qualifying examination with 50 % marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the qualifying examination. Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning Courses in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs shall be as under.

The Admission Policy, as announced by the Competent Authority of the admitting institutes shall be followed at the time of admission.

Eligibility for Admission to Other Institutions:

The above mentioned policy could also be adopted by other Technical Institutions participating in counselling through JoSAA/CSAB. In case a State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to State Universities, the State may prepare separate rank list based on criteria decided by them.

Number of seats in various institutions

For all admission related procedures/queries, the candidates are advised to refer the website of JoSAA, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) or the concerned State government/institute after declaration of ranks of JEE (Main)–2020. The letter/e-mails/grievances/RTI cases/Court cases regarding admission related procedures/queries will not be entertained by NTA.

Reservation of Seats:

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

  • General-EWS
    • Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non Creamy Layer (NCL)
    • Scheduled Castes (SC)
    • Scheduled Tribes (ST)
    • Persons with Disability (PwD)with 40% or more disability

Benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs and CFTIs shall be given only to those classes/castes/tribes which are in the respective central list published by the Govt. of India. For admission to State Engineering colleges who have opted for admission through JEE (Main)-2020, the reservation rules of that State shall apply. The letter/e-mails/grievances/RTI cases/Court cases regarding reservation criteria will not be entertained by NTA. The reservation policy as announced by the government from time to time and applicable to the admitting institutes will be used. The Candidates are advised to look for details at the time of admission.

Seat Allocation Process and Admission Procedure:

Candidates shall be offered admission based on their choices and All India Ranks of JEE (Main) 2020 through a Seat Allocation Process to be announced later. The candidates will be able to make their choices online for branches/programs and institutes at appropriate time. Candidates are advised to regularly visit the JEE (Main) website: www.nta.ac.in for latest information. The verification of documents would be done at the time of Seat Allocation Process/admission. The purpose would be to verify different records regarding identification, age, qualifying examination, State of eligibility, category and disability (if any) of the candidate. On failing to produce any of the authentic documents, the candidate will not be considered for admission. Gen-EWS, SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates will be required to produce original certificate as per prescribed formats issued by the competent authority at the time of Seat Allocation Process as well as at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission.

Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in JEE (Advanced) –2020 (Please refer to JEE (Advanced) website for the latest information)

The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (Advanced) -2020 is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of Class 12thor equivalent qualifying examination with at least 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC, ST, and PwD) or being in the top 20 percentile of the successful candidates in their respective Board examinations. Those appearing in these examinations in 2020 can also appear in JEE (Advanced)- 2020 provisionally and these candidates would also have to fulfill the above requirements. The IITs have specific eligibility criteria for admission, which includes an age bar, limited number of attempts and year of passing  class 12th or equivalent; candidates are advised to refer to the JEE (Advanced) 2020 website for details. All the candidates aspiring to take admission to the undergraduate programs at IITs for the year 2020 will have to appear in the B. E. /B. Tech. of JEE (Main)-2020. Based on the performance in the B. E. /B. Tech. of JEE (Main)-2020, number of top candidates as per the requirement of JEE (Advanced) (including all categories) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)-2020. A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years irrespective of whether or not he/she passed the Qualifying Examination. The candidates, who have attempted JEE (Main) /JEE (Advanced) in 2018 or earlier, are NOT ELIGIBLE to appear in JEE (Advanced)–2020. The candidate who had taken admission in any institute other than IITs in 2019 is eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)–2020 provided that the candidate satisfies other eligibility criteria.

JEE Main (2020) Admit Card

Printing of Admit Cards of JEE Main 2020 from NTA’s website  will be available from 06-12-2019 for candidates who have successfully submitted their application form within the time frame. JEE Main 2020 Admit Card will be available online and candidates have to enter details like JEE Main 2020 application number and date of birth to download the admit card.

JEE Main (2020) Answer Key

National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the answer key of JEE Main 2020 by official website. Along with the answer key of JEE Main 2020, the exam conducting authority also releases the recorded responses of the answer sheets of the candidates. Candidates are given the option of check/view/challenge the answer key of JEE Main 2020. Candidates can check the answer key of JEE Main 2020 and compare their answers with the answer key which they have marked in the actual exam. This gives them the idea how many marks will they score in the JEE main 2020 paper.

JEE Main (2020) Result

The result of JEE Main 2020 will be  available by NTA in online mode on Janyuary 31st 2020 J Candidates must note that the result of JEE Main 2020 is declared online wherein the test takers have to enter their JEE Main 2020 roll number and date of birth to get their result. The result of JEE Main 2020 gets the candidates their score in the test and the qualifying status for JEE Advanced 2020 for admissions to the IITs.

JEE Main (2020) College Predictor

JEE Main 2020 College Predictor is a simple yet unique tool developed by to help candidates zero upon the colleges they want to seek admission in. JEE Main 2020 Rank List

JEE Main 2020 rank list is the list which will reflect candidates All India Ranks and Category Ranks. National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the rank list of JEE Main 2020 along with the declaration of result in online mode. The exam authorities will declare the JEE Main 2020 rank list in the third or fourth week of January 2020 for both Paper 1 & 2 through its official website.. JEE Main 2020 rank list will be prepared on the basis of actual scores of the candidates in the engineering entrance test. The All India Ranks (AIRs) are used for admission, while the category ranks are just for information sake. Candidates can download their JEE Main 2020 rank card after checking their JEE Main result 2020 through the result link.

JEE Main (2020) Counselling & Seat Allotment

The counselling of JEE Main 2020 will tentatively begin from the third week of June 2020 and will continue till the third week of July 2020. It must be noted that NTA does not conduct the counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main 2020 . JEE Main 2020 counselling and seat allotment will jointly be conducted by JoSAA 2020, which also conducts seat allocation procedure for admission to IITs. The counselling and seat allotment process of JEE Main 2020 will be held online for admission to 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 GFTIs – the participating institutes of JEE Main 2020. Total of 7 rounds will be conducted for admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and other left over seats will be conducted as 2 special rounds which will be conducted by CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) – 2020. JEE Main (2020) Participating Institutes

The participating institutes of JEE Main 2020 include engineering institutes/colleges that will offer admissions into B.Tech programmes to the JEE Main 2020 qualifying candidates. JEE Main 2020 participating institutes include 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 GFTIs. These institutes are the official participating institutes of JEE Main 2020, however, there are some state colleges and private institutes which offer admissions into B.Tech programmes based on their score in JEE Main 2020. Engineering colleges in states like Haryana, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha will also offer admission to candidates on the basis of JEE Main 2020 scores.
